North Dakota State Legislature: “Personhood” rights to be extended to the unborn

North Dakota State Legislature: “Personhood” rights to be extended to the unborn

While many legislatures across the world are pushing for unrestricted access to abortion, the North Dakota Legislative Assembly has defied this tragic trend and instead has passed a series of bills designed to defend human life, from its conception.

In recognition of the unborn’s undeniable (yet consistently ignored) humanity, and thus their deserved inviolability from harm, lawmakers of North Dakota have delivered a rare victory to the pro-life cause within the United States.  The clauses of the so-called ‘personhood’ resolutions include: extending the same criminal protection of all citizens to the unborn; recognising both baby and the mother as medical patients; removing gender and disabilities such as Down syndrome as a justification for ending the life of the child; safeguarding “the inalienable right to life of every human being at any stage of development must be recognized and protected.”  After passing in the Senate and the House of Representatives, the people of North Dakota will now be offered a vote on part of the legislation.

In his words of support for the North Dakota legislators behind these efforts, Luca Volontè, Chairman of the Dignitatis Humanae Institute, commented: “It should be a source of pride, not contention, that North Dakota is not following the herd ever further down the same tragic path; instead it strives to defend the lives of the most innocent and most vulnerable in society.  Article 3 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights asserts the right to life of everyone: North Dakota is leading the way that others should follow.”

What they say about the DHI…

  • [Speaking of the Universal Declaration of Human Dignity] “Whether we like it or not, Christianity forms the bedrock for our ideals of the human person and individual freedom, because this anthropological interpretation leads to a very interesting conclusion- the State may give us our human rights, but only God can give us infinite human dignity.” Nirj Deva MEP
