The Monthly Newsletter of the Dignitatis Humanae Institute
Volume 2, Issue 12
The Dignitatis Humanae Institute here in Rome was delighted to host during Holy Week a visit by the President of our International Committee on Human Dignity, Nirj Deva MEP.
Exclusive to Imago Dei, Nirj Deva gives here an excerpt from his forthcoming speech:'Christianity in public life-under threat.'
"Christianity is the foundation on which our great nation was built. Our legal codes, our deepest principles and even our system of government would be markedly poorer without it. Yet today it is increasingly threatened, and its adherents discriminated against, by a militant secularism which seeks to extend its tentacles into every aspect of our lives."
"The fight against this militant secularism and those who advance it starts now. I will be working with people of faith (irrespective of religion) from across the world to safeguard the right of all persons to play a full and equal part in public life."
"Dignity, respect, service, charity, family and community; these are values which society can only benefit from in public life. 2000 years of scholarship, boasting some of the finest minds in human history, stands behind the Christian faith. To delude ourselves that this can be set aside without careful, meaningful and respectful consideration is to be guilty of a most profound hubris."
The Dignitatis Humanae Institute takes heart from the words of Nirj Deva, and encourages all politicians to similarly stand up and speak out against the creeping attempts to silence the Christian faith.
