London’s Imperial War Museum has voted the late Group Captain Leonard Cheshire, VC, DSO, DFC the accolade of “The Greatest British Hero of the Second World War”. Capt. Cheshire went on to found Leonard Cheshire Disability, the world’s largest charity for people with disabilities. In tribute to this great wartime hero, Ilyas Khan, the Chairman of Leonard Cheshire Disability and Vice Chairman of the Dignitatis Humanae Institute, said:
“In a society that is screening out pre-natally people with disabilities from even being born, Leonard Cheshire witnessed to a different understanding of the human person. To him, everyone had a value and should be offered compassion and respect, whatever their physical abilities or ‘usefulness’. On behalf of the Institute for Human Dignity and Leonard Cheshire Disability, I am immensely proud of our founder, and especially honoured that he has been given this accolade for his incredible achievements.”
